Virgin Mary Rosa Mystica
This medal shows the Virgin Mary in profile with the ancient title “Rosa Mystica” written on either side of her halo. The title Rosa Mystica compares Mary to a mystical rose. The rose has traditionally been an attribute of Mary, while the addition of the term “Mystica” recalls the mystery of the incarnation.
 
The reverse shows the Virgin Mary as the Black Madonna of Fourviere. The basilica of Fourviere is located in Lyon, France. The symbol of Lyon, the lion, rests at Mary’s feet representing Mary’s protection of the city.
