The front of this intricately detailed medal features Pope St. Pius X, above Emperor Constantine, holding his famous banner, and St. Helena, embracing the True Cross, which she famously discovered in the Holy Land. Centered between them is St. Peter's Basilica.
The back of this unusual medal depicts the pivotal moment in history when Constantine, before the Battle of Milvian Bridge in 312, was granted a vision. In the sky he beheld a Chi Rho, and the words IN HOC SIGNO VINCES, "By this sign you shall conquer". He instructed his troops to place this sign on their banners and shields, and the ensuing victory led him to embrace Christianity.
